Carlos Rivera-Gonzalez
Carlos Rivera-Gonzalez is an Assistant Professor in the Gerald May Department of Civil, Construction, and Environmental Engineering at the University of New Mexico. He did his postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Toronto and holds a Ph.D. from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI). Dr. Rivera-Gonzalez was named a 2023 LatinX Trailblazer in Engineering by Purdue University and has received several awards, including the prestigious Lee Schipper Memorial Scholarship from the World Resources Institute and the Volvo Research Educational Foundation.
His research focuses on three main topics: urban economics, freight transportation accessibility, and the interaction between land use, transportation, and supply chain efficiency. He firmly believes that transportation must be thoroughly researched, given its benefits and potential adverse consequences for societies, economies, and the environment. His research approach combines qualitative (content and thematic analysis) and quantitative (statistical modeling, machine learning, geographic information systems, and operations research) methods to produce a holistic understanding likely to generate impact in real-world scenarios.
Dr. Rivera-Gonzalez is a reviewer for 17 prestigious academic journals, including the Journal of Transport Geography, Transportation Research Part A: Policy and Practice, and Transportation Research Part E: Logistics and Transportation Review.
